There are many photo reference on how the burnt wood look. As we can see, beside the dark charcoal of the burnt wood, there are some ashes mix among the charcoal. So, now we are going to use Becky Customizer Burnt 'n' Ash pigments set to replicate that effect.
Step by Step application
1. Before apply the pigment, we paint the part with wood color, for this demonstration we use Vallejo Model Air JGSD Brown, you can use any color you want, matte color are best, as pigment stick easily onto texture surface.
2. Wait for the color to dry and apply the pigment onto the surface, here I rub on the carbon black first follow by Burnt soil.
3. Apply pigment fixer, let the solution flow onto the surface.
4. Before the fixer dry, can use clean brush to blend the pigments onto the surface.
Can repeat step 2 to 4 until you satisfied with the result. After the fixer dried, pigments will stay on the surface.
Optional Step: Apply top coat / clear coat on the pigment. Be careful not to over spray, as the top coat MIGHT alter the color of the pigment.
