While camouflage painting was effective in real combat, its advantages were often diminished by dust and dirt on the battlefield. Combined with increased cost and labor, many vehicles were ultimately finished in a single color.
In AFV modeling, monotone painting may seem easier—only one color is needed—but if applied as is, the result often looks flat and toy-like.
This issue explores how to overcome that “flat” impression through detailed step-by-step examples. Compared to camouflage finishes that require complex tonal balance, single-color schemes make weathering adjustments easier—an ideal challenge for all modelers.
We’ll also introduce simple painting methods using spray cans and brush-painting with water-based or acrylic paints, perfect even for those without an airbrush system.
